During most years up to 25 percent of the bucks taken in the Jackman Moose River region weigh over 200 lbs. Heavy eight and ten point racks are common. Although some other regions offer larger quantities of white-tail deer, no other region in Maine offers more consistent large world class deer.

Grouse season runs through October and November. The regeneration of forest lands creates great bird cover.

Available to hunters, grouse hunting is a growing sport that produces many happy hunters that return every year.
The fastest growing hunting season in the Jackman area is hare hunting. They are easily hunted with dogs or still hunting. Jackman is a popular hare hunting spot because of the number of hare in that area. Hunters are very successful and enjoy filling the daily bag limit of four. Sportsmen have no complaints about not getting enough action.
Moose Hunting is by permit only with a lottery set up to draw the lucky hunters. Bishop is the only State of Maine Registration Agent in the area and weighs bulls in the 900 lb. class every year. Most hunters get their prize on the first couple days of hunting. A success rate, near 100% is the normal expected kill. As a guest of Bishop's Country Inn Motel, owners Glenn and Denise can help tell you where the moose usually hang out.
